Reading for Wellbeing Virtual Book Group – November 22

Hello all,

The Virtual Book Group met to discuss The Swimmer by Graham Norton. Several of us said that we would previously have been reluctant to pick up a novel by a celebrity author, but actually we really enjoyed this and are now looking to read more of Graham’s work! We enjoyed spending time in the little Irish village and getting to know the cast of characters. We didn’t see the final twist coming at all, and yet it made perfect sense, which is really quite impressive in such a short read! Our discussion also meandered into the joys of other formats for engaging with stories. This librarian is strongly of the opinion that all types of reading count, so if you’re an audiobook aficionado or gung-ho about graphic novels, more power to you! At the end of the day, it’s the same story going into your brain, and that’s what really counts. J

The next meeting of the Reading for Wellbeing Virtual Book Group is taking place on Wednesday 7th December at 7-8pm via MS Teams. (If you have any questions about using MS Teams, please let me know!)

Our next book choice is: Once Upon a River by Diane Setterfield. We do not have this available in the hospital library, so to buy your own copy, it can be purchased as an e-book from Amazon or the Kobo Store. Alternatively, if you’d prefer a paperback copy, it can be purchased from Waterstones, WHSmith, Bookshop.org, Blackwell’s or Hive. There are also copies available from Explore York and North Yorkshire public libraries.

If you have any further questions about the Virtual Book Group, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Best wishes,

Kathryn Aylward
