The Book Group met to discuss The Little Dreams of Lara Cliffe by Milly Johnson. The group was divided on this book – some enjoyed the light-hearted escapism of Lara’s hen do in Amsterdam, whereas others felt the story was a bit too clichéd. Though it wasn’t everyone’s cup of tea, and there is perhaps less to talk about when the story is quite light-hearted, we did discuss the value of a book that you know is going to have that happily ever after ending, particularly when the world outside seems quite bleak.
The next meeting of the Reading for Wellbeing Virtual Book Group is taking place on Wednesday 4th May at 7-8pm via WebEx.
Our next book choice is a full length novel (and one that is pretty much the opposite of light-hearted escapism!) – Shuggie Bain by Douglas Stuart.
We don’t have a copy of this book in the hospital library. To buy your own copy, it can be purchased as an e-book from Amazon or the Kobo store or as a paperback from Waterstones, WHSmith, Blackwell’s, Hive or Bookshop.org. There are also copies available from Explore York and North Yorkshire public libraries.
If you have any further questions about the Virtual Book Group, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
