Members of The Hut York, came together recently to think about what things bring them joy, such as dancing to music, being creative or simply taking a breath outside. The result is an explosion of mixed media collage and happiness! We will be displaying this inspirational work in our 3D space on the main corridor in York Hospital, very soon!
Experiencing joy in the little things around us is a simple and powerful thing to do. The Arts Team, this month, challenges you to recreate your own little spark of joy. Whether it be a photograph of the sun sparkling on the river, a sock you’ve finally finished knitting, a delicious cake you baked and shared, an old playlist you love to listen to… please email a photo to art@york.nhs.uk and we’ll share the joy in our Culture Club gallery.
Have a look at the links below to see how others have been inspired to get creative by their own small moments of joy.

The Orange
At lunchtime I bought a huge orange—
The size of it made us all laugh.
I peeled it and shared it with Robert and Dave—
They got quarters and I had a half.
And that orange, it made me so happy,
As ordinary things often do
Just lately. The shopping. A walk in the park.
This is peace and contentment. It’s new.
The rest of the day was quite easy.
I did all the jobs on my list
And enjoyed them and had some time over.
I love you. I’m glad I exist.
