Local artist Karen Winship created a series of portraits as a tribute to the work of NHS staff during the Covid-19 pandemic. Karen has kindly donated a montage of the portraits to York Hospital.

Inspired by Tom Croft’s #portraitsfornhsheroes project, calling for artists to create free portraits in appreciation of NHS staff, Karen was soon inundated with requests. Her series of NHS portraits depicts staff from York (including her daughter Kelly), Newcastle, Northern Ireland and Scotland. The artwork has been exhibited at York Art Gallery, York City Screen, All Saints Church (in partnership with Pocklington Arts Centre) and in the pop up exhibition space on Coney Street, York. Karen’s portrait of Samantha has been included in Tom Croft’s book, Portraits for NHS Heroes.
Karen currently has an exhibition, Between the Lines – Living with Dementia, on the main corridor in York Hospital.
